About Us The Annual Miss Africa USA Scholarship Pageant is founded on the basis of advancing the cause for women of African descent. The Pageant which was previously produced by the Shrine of Africa LLC is a charity event for the community, uniting Africans and friends of Africa in celebrating the African cultural heritage in this great nation of The United States of America. The Miss Africa USA Pageant is now managed and produced by African Women's Development Foundation Inc (AWDF Inc), a 501c-3-non-profit organization headquartered in the State of Georgia. The Mission of AWDF is based on giving back to humanity especially in Africa where need cannot be over-emphasized. The pageant is just one out of many existing development projects that the AWDF embarks on. The AWDF takes Pageantry to the next level for young African women by grooming African Queens as great Ambassadors for humanity, advocating for the needy by carrying out projects in Africa. The pageant redefines the image of the African woman as a leader and a vital partner in the development of Africa and the world. This is a non-politcal, non-patisan platform for young women to achieve personal growth and development, take pride in their heritage, discover their inner beauty in achieving their humanitarian goals in life and laying a strong foundation as leaders of the future. The pageant is open to delegates from all 53 countries that make up the continent of Africa, the motherland. Pageant delegates are simply ordinary women of African descent living in America and facing every day challenges of growing up in two different cultures, and it takes a strong woman to appreciate both the American and the African culture as well as being proud of their heritage.
The organization also takes great pride in bringing Africa to America and providing opportunities for Americans who love Africa to really experience a little piece of the African culture. Attendance at the pageant is very mixed and it feels very rewarding and refreshing when non-Africans attend the event and walk away having learnt something great about Africa (ex Africa is not one country, it is a continent made up of 53 unique countries with diverse cultures). Our friends of Africa often say ' I would like to visit Africa' and that is a good thing because Africa is beautiful, it is not just what you may see in the media. We are proud to promote Africa. The philosophy of the Miss Africa USA Scholarship Pageant is about appreciating the great opportunities that America has offered to women of African descent and how to use such a privileged position to advocate for the less fortunate.
To project a positive image of Africa and advocate for the needy
Operating under the guidelines of the African Women's Development Foundation Inc, and its affiliate charity organizations, this pageant enables the Queen and her delegates to participate in identified projects geared at helping the needy as follows: 1. Increasing Access to Healthcare, Health Education and Fighting Disease 2. Increasing Access to Education 3. Advocating for Women and Children's rights 4. Supporting Women's Initiatives
