School/Institution: University of Virginia
Major/minor: Economics/Urban Design
Giving Back:
Every fall, I help first generation African high school seniors apply to college, ensuring that they fill out the applications correctly and have competitive essays that are competitive with other prospective college students.
I am a co-benefactor of the Ansong-Bawuah Scholarship, which was started three years ago. The scholarship is awarded to a Ghanaian/African/ and/or minority high school senior at my high school alma mater, who has intentions to attend the University of Virginia in the fall.
Ghana Youth Council - I am a Board member of the Ghana Youth Council (GYC). The purpose of GYC is to provide the framework and support to empower the youth and young professionals of Ghanaian descent to engage in advancing the cultural, social, and economic development of themselves.
Five-Year Aspirational Plan:
In five years, I hope to be working in Africa, either with United Nations, WHO, World Bank, or teaching in a university in Ghana. I plan on implementing urban planning techniques in Africa and empowering the people with the knowledge needed to create urban environments that reduce preventable deaths and enhance their quality of life.
Country you are representing: Ghana
Platform: I would like to look at the connection between urban design and road fatalities and find a way to eradicate road fatalities, a preventable public health issue which is plaguing low-income countries, such as Ghana.
